Job Description

The Position

Under the general direction of the Education Manager, the ECE Teacher will provide quality, inclusive childcare programming and supervision for young children in a group setting. This position will be responsible for guiding and instructing children in various educational subjects and life skills. In addition, the ECE Teacher will assist children with nurturing developmental and cognitive skills such as physical, mental, and social development. Note: This is a one-year position with the opportunity to be extended.

Candidate:

  • Plan, carry out, and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the centre’s philosophy.
  • Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities.
  • Establish and carry out a daily activity schedule that incorporates child-directed activity, care routines and transition times.
  • Organize space, equipment and materials before activities.
  • Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations.
  • Use a variety of teaching techniques, including modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.
  • Observation and Documentation on a daily basis.
  • Encourage and assist children to practice self-help daily.
  • Plan and carry out experiences that foster an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems.
  • Plan and carry out activities that encourage problem-solving.
  • Provide experiences and play materials that actively promote diversity and acceptance in interactions and attitudes.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution.
  • Current BC License to Practice.
  • Documentation in accordance with Community Care Facilities Branch licensing requirements.
  • An understanding of the issues that affect First Nation children and their families.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with parents and community members.
  • Mature and responsible attitude toward work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and Level “C” CPR.
  • Negative criminal records check with the vulnerable sector.
